No Time Tips to Speed Cleaning

Speed cleaning is the answer to the no-time problem. With these speed-cleaning tips, you can move mountains fast! Moms are super busy and making time to deep clean can feel impossible.

Sharing is caring.

1. Start with Surface Clutter.

When you are pushed on time, this is the time to pick up the pace. Run (walk briskly) around the house and pick up anything that does not belong on the tops of furniture and counters. This is usually cups or wrappers from snacks left laying out around my house.

The kitchen may have more to deal with but just quickly put food away. Out of sight out of mind. Dishes get loaded in the dishwasher. The bathroom is usually makeup and brushes that need to go back into the drawers. Done!

2. Go on a Trash Hunt.

I recycle grocery bags for this kind of thing. Empty bathroom trash cans, grab the tissues off of the end tables and look for all those little things that get laid down. You know the trash that you and the kids stick in places. My hubby always has a dental pick laying by his sink, in spite of the trash can right there. It happens.

3. Relocate Misplaced Items.

Do you have laundry on the couch? Shoes in the living room. Grab a laundry basket and pick up anything that does not belong in your living room, kitchen, or where ever your guests will see. Grab it up and run it back where it belongs.

4. Use a Multi-Purpose Cleaner.

Save time grabbing different products by using a damp microfiber cloth and a good multi-purpose cleaner. In a rush, the damp cloth works well for dusting. From there I tackle the counters in the kitchen and lastly the bathroom counters. The last thing I do is a quick wipe of the toilet and swish it with the brush. Never use the cloth in the bathroom first!

5. Quickly Check Floors.

By now you should have already picked up all the miscellaneous stuff off of the floors. This makes grabbing the stick vac and running over the main areas very quickly. The stick vac works perfectly on hardwood, tile, and carpet which saves time changing from broom to vacuum.

6. The Secret to Keeping Clean is to be Consistent

Honestly, once I settled into a real cleaning routine things got a LOT easier. Prior to FlyLady, I had to marathon clean every weekend, and if someone wanted to stop by I went into a panic. I always had loads of laundry, piles of dirty dishes, and stacks of bills and paperwork laying around so a quick clean was not very quick.

You can’t clean clutter...
— Marla Cilley, the FlyLady

I may have a great cleaning routine but don't get it twisted, nothing is ever perfect around here. My routine keeps me sane and overall the house is not a disaster but I always have things that need straightening. Some weeks are much more than others. However, I timed myself doing this speed clean prior to Easter and it literally took me 35 min because in general, I am maintaining things with my cleaning routines.
