Cleaning YouTubers Have a Secret

If you are anything like me, I became addicted to watching cleaning YouTubers during the 2020 shutdown. Although I was not home at that time, I still found it therapeutic to watch the methodical cleaning.

One key takeaway that is not talked about by those cleaning influencers is the forethought they put into it. While you and I may look around and think, "this house is a disaster" these YouTubers have a set schedule so that every part of the house is cleaned equally and with a purpose.

One key takeaway that is not talked about by those cleaning influencers is the forethought they put into it. While you and I may look around and think, "this house is a disaster" these YouTubers have a set schedule so that every part of the house is cleaned equally and with a purpose.

By having a plan, the YouTubers know exactly where to start and what to do. They do not just randomly jump in because without a plan things get missed. If you need to set up a plan, I can help!

I tend to walk into my bedroom to make my bed and see dirty clothes on the floor. I gather it all up and head to start the laundry. On the way back, I notice the looming pile of dishes in the sink, and 30 minutes later I need a break. With coffee in hand, I sit down for just a minute to scroll my Instagram feed which actually lasts two hours. This floor needs cleaning so off I go until I need to rush out to get the kids from school. The whole day continues this way and I am exhausted. The bed never got made, and the laundry is still in the washer, I did tidy up the kitchen only to destroy it trying to come up with a last-minute dinner.

Sound familiar?

2. Some Creators Create Their Own Disaster

The little known secret that cleaning YouTubers do NOT want you to know is that they do not clean every day. In fact, it has been reported off of the record that some influencers let their kids go wild over the weekends so that they have a big mess to clean during the week for filming.

WHAT?

Yes, the bigger the mess means the more extreme the clean-up. This drives up interest and increases audience retention. Why? To be honest, I always feel better about my house when I see a disaster in theirs. The real struggle for me is that I enjoy watching the transformation but also feel disgusted.

3. Cleaning YouTubers Pre-Clean

While some influencers create a disaster to clean, others will tidy up before hitting record. It is common for YouTubers to hide their messes off-camera. So, when you are thinking you are a complete slob just remember that things are not always as clean as they seem!

There is something to be learned here. Everyone, even the experts on tv/YouTube have something they want to hide from the world. Take a breath and remember we are fighting a tide, literally. Just like the tide, messes will regularly come. The house is for living. We have to shower, cook, eat, and sleep which leaves behind things to be cleaned. Do your best but have grace and don't expect perfection.

4. They Spend to Get You to Buy

The ugly truth is that YouTube takes a lot of time and money to do. Creators rely on affiliate marketing to help offset the ongoing list of subscriptions and equipment to even be relevant. YouTube stands as the top video-sharing platform due to its large user base and the impressive 3.7 million videos uploaded daily. That means YouTube creators need to "get the click" which means get your attention and keep it with sharp images, copy-right free music, and equipment like lighting, microphones, cameras, tripods, just to name a few.

Many cleaning youTubers are buying products to review or decorate with so that they can get a small commission if you decide to click their links. This is both good and bad I think. I truly enjoy some creators who occasionally tell me about a new product that they love or a new find that just makes a room. However, this can easily be abused. Some of the cleaning influencers I used to enjoy have switched their content to continually pushing new products every single week. Buy, buy, buy.

How does Affiliate Marketing Work for the Viewer?

"This post contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase using this link. Please see my disclosure for more details."

As a viewer, all of this can be confusing. In a nutshell, the cleaning influencer signs up with a company (like Amazon) and can get a link for any products they use in the video. This includes clothing, electronics, services, you name it. Here is an example of a link for my favorite tea.

The viewer sees something in the video that is interesting and clicks the link. The company (like Amazon) notes the link is being used and gives that creator a very small commission off of anything you buy within a set amount of time. The viewer does NOT pay anything extra. It does not matter what you buy, clicking a link for one product but then buying something else still credits the creator with a commission. Using affiliate links is the best way to support your favorite YouTubers.

5. Influencers Have Bad Days Too

Believe it or not, even your favorite cleaning YouTubers have messes. The biggest difference is that they know the secret to maintaining a tidy house. Are you on the edge of your seat?

The secret is consistency. Just like growing a thriving YouTube channel and brand requires continual nurturing with routine uploads, your house needs regular loving too. Remember that ebb and flow of the tide? Just do a little every day will keep your cleaning time to a minimum.

Marathon cleaning all day over a weekend and then not doing anything all week means that by Friday you are looking at a big mess all over again. When you clean regularly, you take less time to keep it clean. If you want to know some secrets to keep things tidy, check out this article.

Cleaning influencers have a lot to do with filming and editing added to their normal lives. Having a consistent routine is the only way they can balance it all and you can too!
